Easter, Easter Monday and Corpus Christi move with Easter and are entered several years ahead; the other eleven repeat yearly on their own. Tap a day to read about it.

A priest goes round blessing homes, chalking the year and K+M+B on the door lintel for Caspar, Melchior and Balthazar. In some regions children go door to door singing, a custom called koledanje.
A public holiday, but it falls on a Sunday so it costs no working day. Everything closed and restaurants book out. The date moves every year: the first Sunday after the first full moon on or after 21 March.
On Holy Saturday a basket is taken to church to be blessed: ham, horseradish, spring onions, dyed eggs and a plaited loaf. That is the Easter breakfast, eaten cold and early. Eggs are traditionally dyed red with onion skins, and children knock them against each other, and the one whose egg survives intact wins.

Public holiday, everything closed. Marks the forming of the first anti-fascist partisan unit in 1941. Politically contested in a way most Croatian holidays are not.
The date marks the founding of the Sisak Partisan Detachment in the Brezovica forest on 22 June 1941, described in Croatia as the first armed anti-fascist unit in occupied Europe. Unlike most Croatian holidays this one is politically contested, and not everyone marks it the same way.
Public holiday, everything closed. Marks the end of Operation Storm in 1995 and the close of the Homeland War. Main ceremony in Knin.
Marks 5 August 1995 and the entry into Knin at the end of Operation Storm. The main ceremony is at Knin fortress with the raising of the flag.
Public holiday, everything closed. The biggest Catholic feast of the summer, with major pilgrimages. The coast is at its fullest and the roads are at their worst.
The largest Marian feast. Marija Bistrica receives tens of thousands of pilgrims, many walking through the night; the same goes for Sinj and Trsat. If you are travelling, this is the worst day of the year for the roads to the coast and the most expensive week for accommodation.
Mirogoj u Zagrebu tog dana cijeli treperi u svjetlu svijeća. Ide se i na grobove daljnje rodbine, a cvijeće i lampaši se kupuju danima unaprijed. Nije tužan dan u smislu žalosti, nego više obiteljski i miran.
Public holiday, everything closed. Families visit cemeteries with candles and flowers. Cemeteries and the roads to them are packed.
Cemeteries fill up and candles are lit from morning. Zagreb's Mirogoj shimmers with candlelight from end to end. People visit the graves of distant relatives too, and flowers and candles are bought days in advance. It is not a mournful day so much as a quiet family one.
Public holiday, everything closed. Full name: Remembrance Day for the Victims of the Homeland War and for the Victims of Vukovar and Škabrnja. A day of national mourning for the fall of Vukovar in 1991, not a celebration, and greetings are out of place. Became a non-working day in 2020.
The Column of Remembrance walks through Vukovar from the hospital to the memorial cemetery, several kilometres, tens of thousands of people, in silence. It is broadcast live. Candles are lit across the country. This is not an occasion for greetings or good cheer.
Public holiday, everything closed.
The table carries roast pork or turkey with mlinci, sarma, and cakes baked days in advance: walnut and poppy-seed rolls inland, fritule on the coast. The greeting is 'Sretan Božić', returned in kind. The city is completely empty; do not count on getting so much as a coffee.
Public holiday, everything closed. The second day of Christmas, traditionally for visiting the wider family.
The second day of Christmas is for visiting: relatives and godparents. Everyone called Stjepan celebrates their name day, and the name is common enough that someone in the room is almost certainly buying a round.
Klikni Google Kalendar u izborniku.
Klikni Apple Kalendar. Otvori se upit za pretplatu, potvrdi. Na iPhoneu i Macu to je isti korak.
Ručno na iPhoneu: Postavke › Aplikacije › Kalendar › Računi › Dodaj račun › Ostalo › Dodaj pretplaćeni kalendar, pa zalijepi adresu:
https://calendar.google.com/calendar/ical/23faeea0d472193503e75b78c57119bd18f6f8ce04de35c85be589255c50f41c%40group.calendar.google.com/public/basic.ics
2. Otvori aplikaciju Google Kalendar. Izbornik (tri crte gore lijevo) › Postavke › ime novog kalendara, pod „Prikaži više” ako ga ne vidiš. Uključi Sinkronizaciju.
3. Otvori Samsung Kalendar. Izbornik (tri crte gore lijevo) › Upravljanje kalendarima › svoj Google račun, pa uključi kalendar.
Ako kalendar ostane prazan, otvori Postavke › Računi i sigurnosno kopiranje › Upravljanje računima › svoj Google račun › Sinkronizacija računa, i uključi Kalendar.
Nemoj koristiti „Uvoz događaja” u Samsung Kalendaru.
This is a subscription, not an import. Your calendar stays linked to the source, so corrections and new years arrive on their own. The "Add to your calendar" button offers shortcuts for the common apps. This section explains what happens behind them and how to do the same by hand.
Click Google Calendar in the menu. calendar.google.com opens and asks "Add calendar?". Confirm, and the calendar appears next to your other calendars.
On a phone, do this in the browser, not in the app. The Google Calendar app cannot add a calendar from a link. Once you add it on the web, it shows up in the app too. If you cannot see it, open the settings of the app, find your account and switch the calendar on.
By hand: on the web, next to "Other calendars" click +, then "Subscribe to calendar" and enter the calendar address:
23faeea0d472193503e75b78c57119bd18f6f8ce04de35c85be589255c50f41c@group.calendar.google.com
Click Apple Calendar. A subscription prompt opens. Confirm it. The step is the same on iPhone and Mac.
By hand on iPhone: Settings › Apps › Calendar › Accounts › Add Account › Other › Add Subscribed Calendar, then paste the address:
https://calendar.google.com/calendar/ical/23faeea0d472193503e75b78c57119bd18f6f8ce04de35c85be589255c50f41c%40group.calendar.google.com/public/basic.ics
On a Mac: Calendar › File › New Calendar Subscription. Set auto-refresh to "every day".
Samsung Calendar cannot subscribe to a calendar address. It shows only the calendars of the accounts on your phone. So put this calendar in your Google account first, then switch it on in Samsung Calendar.
1. On the phone, open this page in the browser and click Google Calendar. Sign in with the same Google account the phone uses, then confirm "Add calendar?".
2. Open the Google Calendar app. Menu (the three lines, top left) › Settings › the name of the new calendar, under "Show more" if you do not see it. Turn Sync on.
3. Open Samsung Calendar. Menu (the three lines, top left) › Manage calendars › your Google account, then switch the calendar on.
If the calendar stays empty, open Settings › Accounts and backup › Manage accounts › your Google account › Sync account, and switch Calendar on.
Do not use "Import events" in Samsung Calendar. That copies the dates once, and they never update again.
Without a Google account, Samsung Calendar cannot do this at all. A separate app such as ICSx⁵ holds the subscription and shows it in Samsung Calendar.
Outlook.com and Microsoft 365 on the web: click Outlook.com in the menu. By hand: Add calendar › Subscribe from web, then paste the address above.
Classic Outlook for Windows: File › Account Settings › Internet Calendars › New.
Any app that offers "subscribe to a calendar by URL" or "network calendar" takes the same .ics address. Copy it with the Copy address button and paste it.
To look without a subscription: open in Google Calendar.
